Never mind whether you’re for or against Brexit – the resulting omnishambles from this government’s last two years of dawdling, in-fighting and embarrassing gamut of inaction from MPs and civil servants means we’re getting the outcome nobody deserves except them. What an utter disgrace to democracy our country has become – and the rest of Europe’s laughing at us (trust me, I have plenty of friends in France, Spain, Norway, Holland — we’re now little more than a farce).
Sack the lot of them, introduce a parliamentary republic and modernise the Houses. And while we’re at it, introduce far more stringent laws surrounding campaigning, funding, permissible extent of promises and claims by elected representatives, clampdowns on political lobbying & advertising and a radical rethink of how this country’s voting system works. Perhaps we should term limit all political representatives, or force mandatory breaks after consecutive periods of reelection, with MPs nominated from general society as opposed to our current system of career politicians entrenching political divides even further. Our political system is demonstrably broken at the moment and is in no way representative of the UK’s population and spread of opinion. I’m disgusted with the whole thing. And yet, I can’t stop watching BBC Parliament at the moment…
